Solitude
A writer needs solitude (like a bat needs to hang upside down?).
There is a distinction between solitude and isolation: isolation is often involuntary.

To me, the solitude of a writer seems to be the fundamental moment in which the experience of a moment in life is transformed into art - universal and eternal.
